  Three postdoctoral positions are available at the Departments Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Chemistry of the Ribeirao Preto Medical School, University of Sao Paulo (FMRP-USP), Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. The fellowships are funded by the Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). The candidates will lead projects in different areas of interest of the Center of Research in Inflammatory Diseases (CRID), as follows:

  Applicants should be exceptionally motivated, innovative, and capable of independent work within a collaborative team setting.

  This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.

  Applications Deadline: All applications should be received by August 15th 2019.

  Position #1: Molecular and Cell Biology

  We are seeking applicants who are exceptionally motivated, innovative, that can work independently within a collaborative team setting. The ideal candidate must have a PhD. degree and background in the field of molecular and cell biology. Prior experience in techniques such as cell culture (primary and lineage cells), gene cloning, transfection and surrogate expression are required. Candidates with virus delivery system expertise and CRISPR/Cas related techniques will have priority.

  Please submit your complete application by August 15th, 2019 (cover letter, resume CV- curriculum vitae and 2 recommendation letters) to Dr. Thiago Mattar Cunha: thicunha@usp.br.

  Position #2: Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Applied to Transcriptomics Analysis

  One post-doctoral position in bioinformatics/systems biology with a focus on Transcriptomics analysis is available at the Center for Research in Inflammatory Diseases – CRID (http://crid.fmrp.usp.br/?l=en_US), one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), headquartered in the University of São Paulo’s Ribeirão Preto Medicine School (FMRP-USP) in Ribeirão Preto city, Brazil. The successful applicant will join the Computational Systems Biology Laboratory (CSBL), which is comprised of a dynamic, interdisciplinary group of researchers including immunologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians. His/her activities will be supervised by Professor Helder Nakaya (http://csbiology.com/team-view/helder-nakaya/).

  Responsabilities

  The successful candidate will work in USP’s main campus in São Paulo city, where the lab is located. The fellowship holder must play a leading role in data analysis, including the integration of omics data and developing predictive models and testable hypotheses.

  The specific responsibilities include:

  - Development of analysis protocols for in-house, and public gene-expression datasets;

  - Development or adaptation of software tools and scripts to meet project needs;

  - Leading the analysis, or managing the analysts through developed protocols;

  - Being a team leader, and confident in collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to manage a bioinformatics research group.

  In addition, the successful applicants will lead efforts in data management and bioinformatic infrastructure maintenance. The job duty will involve database construction and maintenance; deployment of hardware and software tools; management and development of analysis protocols; coordination of project materials and resources; and collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members.

  Requirements

  • The qualified applicant will have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, or in a relevant biological discipline or in computer science, plus demonstrated experience in bioinformatics research. Previous demonstrated experience in transcriptomic analysis is required. Familiarity with working in a Linux / Unix environment, plus experience with relational databases and fluency in R or Python programming languages are required;

  • Candidates are expected to have familiarity of open-source / commercial bioinformatic tools and databases, especially for pathway and network analyses. Also, applicants must have the ability to work independently;

  • Excellent attention to details and organizational skills. Applicant must have the ability to work in a fast-moving interdisciplinary team environment, as well as the ability to discuss issues and provide solutions to scientists with different backgrounds. Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Research novelty, leadership in project management and experience in wet lab molecular biology are highly desirable. Strong quantitative or statistical background, experience in machine learning and predictive modeling will be a plus.

  Please submit your resume (CV) with contact information, a motivation letter and at least 2 letters of recommendation to Prof. Helder Takashi Imoto Nakaya, e-mail hnakaya@usp.br.

  Position #3. Organic Synthetic and Natural Products Chemistry

  One post-doctoral position is being offered by the Center for Research in Inflammatory Diseases (CRID), one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and hosted by the University of São Paulos Ribeirão Preto Medical School (FMRP-USP) in Ribeirao Preto, São Paulo State, Brazil. The opportunity has funding from FAPESPand is aimed at highly motivated scientists with expertise in organic synthetic and natural products chemistry.

  The selected candidate will join a collaboration between CRID and the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio), affiliated with the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Material (CNPEM) in Campinas, São Paulo State.
