Postdoctoral Researcher in medicine: Alzheimer Molecular Imaging

Karolinska Institutet

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2019 of 497 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The Division of Clinical Geriatric, with over 100 employed and affiliated researchers are located both in Neo, Campus Flemingsberg and in the Q-building in Solna. We conduct research focusing on cognitive impairment, dementia, and other aging related disorders, and education, among other medical graduates. Our research is multi-faceted and is in close collaboration with leading institutions and clinics worldwide. The research is clinically oriented with an emphasis on diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The division has a close cooperation with the Medical Unit Aging within Theme Inflammation and Aging at Karolinska University Hospital.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

You will begin to do research in a dynamic environment in a multidisciplinary team with a focus on characterizing the complex pathophysiological features of different neurodegenerative diseases with focus on Alzheimer´s disease. Our aims are to develop new early diagnostic markers and new drug targets for early intervention in disease process of neurodegenerative disorders. Our research has a strong focus on advanced multi-tracer PET and MRI imaging techniques. Independent work is combined with strong collaborations within the group and own ideas and initiatives are encouraged.

Your mission

An important task for the applicant is to contribute to the ongoing research activities in Professor Agneta Nordberg´s research group, both conceptually and methodologically. In particular, the person is expected to take an active role in our multi-tracer in vivo PET studies measuring different pathological markers combined with bio fluid biomarkers, cognitive tests and MRI. There are great opportunities to initiate individual research projects based on the person’s interests. The successful candidate should be able to take personal responsibility, work independently and be able to work in teams and be willing to supervise students. In addition, the candidate is expected to have broad knowledge and expertise in aging research and Alzheimer’s disease. The candidate will participate in coordinating projects within the research group and writing applications is also included in the position.

This must be substantiated by the applicant’s main supervisor, director or equivalent.

The candidate is expected to take an active role in applying advanced imaging methods for processing and evaluating PET and MRI imaging data by advanced imaging data processing analysis (e.g., Free surfer, SPM, SFL) and is expected to have good statistical knowledge. Experience within Alzheimer´s disease or other neurodegenerative diseases including clinical or neuropsychological experience is highly appreciated. The successful applicant should have strong scientific credentials that confirm the ability to conduct high‑quality peer-reviewed research. Experience of research in an international environment is considered a merit. We are looking for a social person who likes to collaborate.
