Wistar Institute

Lab – Abdel-Mohsen – Post-Doctoral Fellow (Bioengineering)

The Wistar Institute has an opening for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow to join the lab of Dr. Abdel-Mohsen to study viral-host interactions during HIV infection. The laboratory has multiple NIH-funded translational and basic research projects that aim to design novel immunotherapeutic approaches to treat infectious diseases, with an emphasis on HIV infection.

Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) degree or be close to obtaining their doctoral degree with a strong background in bioengineering, plasmid design, protein expression, and molecular biology techniques. Strong candidates will have at least one-to-two publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.

In addition to the online application, interested individuals should e-mail their CV along with a cover letter briefly describing their research accomplishments and current research interests to Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Mohsen, mmohsen@wistar.org.

The Abdel-Mohsen laboratory is a highly collaborative and supportive training environment in which successful candidates will be given the opportunity mentor and train junior lab members, develop new methodologies, and enhance professional development skills. Wistar is home to one of the most productive HIV research programs in the nation, focused on studying the immunological and virological determinants of HIV persistence and immunopathogenesis (https://wistar.org/research-discoveries/vaccine-immunotherapy-center/hiv-research-program). Wistar HIV researchers are part of the Penn CFAR (Center for AIDS Research), one of 19 NIH-funded HIV research centers located at academic and research institutions throughout the United States. The Penn CFAR facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations among basic and clinical HIV and AIDS investigators at the University of Pennsylvania, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and The Wistar Institute. The Wistar HIV research program also leads the Martin Delaney Collaboratory Program, BEAT-HIV, focused on advancing the HIV cure agenda through both basic and clinical studies. The collaborative team includes more than 60 members worldwide from academia and industry.

The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus. Wistar provides resources to its faculty and staff that enable them to conduct cutting-edge collaborative research and provides for outstanding intellectual environments and state-of-the-art facilities. Research discoveries conducted at Wistar have led to the development of vaccines; the identification of genes associated with cancers; and the development of many other significant research technologies and tools.

We offer a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
