Post doctoral position – analytical food chemistry

Aarhus University, Faculty of Technology, Department of Food Science, offers a 2-year position at the post doctoral level within the area of analytical food chemistry, with particular focus on studying the behavior and fate of a broad range of molecular compounds, in complex matrices in relation to food and packaging, and with strong links to processing effects. Start date March 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Area of work

The position will be part of a dynamic group studying the effect of biopolymer interactions during processing. The department has very advanced analytical platforms based on modern mass spectrometric equipment, including GC, HPLC, and ICP- MS and high resolution mass spectrometry (Trapped ion mobility spectrometry and MALDI-ToF). The position is expected to develop methods to study the fate of metabolites and to study aspects in relation to foodomics and processomics, to generate knowledge in relation of safety and properties of foods during and after processing, as well as during storage or digestion. You will be expected to develop new digital tools to manage analytical data, and to provide directions in relation to online and off line monitoring of process controls. The team works at the interface between processing of foods and food packaging/food contact materials and therefore you will be expected to work in a dynamic team environment and serve as a strong support pillar. You will be also expected to attract research funding and engage in innovation activities. A must is the ability to be flexible, to multitask, to advice junior researchers and to be ready to innovate.

The Post doc position is part of the Department of Food Science. The candidate may take part also in teaching and public engagement activities, as well as participating in supervision of students. Furthermore, the project will have many opportunities to connect with industry.

Qualifications

•A PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in analytical chemistry, forensic chemistry or food chemistry

•Documented expertise in advanced instrumentation, with preference for high resolution mass spectrometry

•Preferably experience in food science and analysis

•A good understanding of a broad variety of analytical methods within the area of food design

•Documentation of good skills in communication of research results internationally as evidenced by a high-quality publication record within food microbiology and/or food technology

•Experience in supervising students and teaching at a high academic level

We offer a challenging and independent job opportunity in an ambitious and inspiring research and education environment with an informal atmosphere. We are looking for a dynamic employee, who is able to work independently and maintain an overview during periods of high workload.
