OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Postdoctoral position

We are seeking highly-motivated candidates for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Neurosurgery, Duke University Medical Center to share in our research efforts. The candidate should have a doctoral degree such as MD or PhD or equivalent degree and interests in brain tumor biology and animal models of pediatric brain tumors.

Pediatric Brain Tumor Lab

The DoD and NIH-funded Thompson lab focuses on 1) elucidating the molecular mechanisms of the leptomeningeal dissemination of pediatric brain tumors such as medulloblastoma and ependymoma, 2) identifying novel therapeutic agents to treat leptomeningeal metastases, and 3) unraveling the mechanism of oncolytic viral therapy for the treatment of pediatric brain and spine tumors. Current projects include 1) elucidating how oncolytic virus therapy induces oxidative stress response in medulloblastoma, 2) determining mechanisms of resistance to oncolytic virus therapy, and 3) unraveling role of the Abelson family kinases (ABL1 and ABL2) in driving medulloblastoma leptomeningeal dissemination.

Excellent written and verbal communication in English is required.
