Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties:

Postdoctoral position: Functions and application of a novel stem cell signalling pathway

Greg Findlay's lab investigates how pluripotent stem cells decide whether to self-renew or commit to differentiate towards a specific cell type or tissue. The goal of the lab is to work out underlying molecular mechanisms by which protein phosphorylation and ubiquitylation control stem cell decision-making and how these processes are disrupted to cause human developmental disorders.

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic individual to join our team to work on an exciting project aimed at investigating the role of a novel signalling pathway in regulation of pluripotent stem cell maintenance and differentiation. This project will deploy state-of-the-art biochemical, proteomic and transcriptomic technologies to elucidate the regulation and function of this signalling pathway in pluripotent cells.

The Findlay lab is based in the MRC-PPU within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, and is one of the world's leading centres studying the role of phosphorylation and ubiquitylationsignalling in human health and disease. There are also strong ties with three major Pharmaceutical companies within the Division of Signal Transduction Therapy. Situated on a beautiful estuary close to some of Scotland's most spectacular mountain scenery, Dundee is developing into a major cultural hub.

The postdoctoral position will be for an initial 2 years with the possibility of an extension. Salary will be dependent on experience, but the appointment will be made on the University's Grade 7 salary scale between £32,817 - £36,914.

An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD. In this case, the initial appointment would be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 28, £31,866).

Candidate requirements:

PhD with excellent academic track record

Strong background in biochemistry and/or cell & molecular biology

Ability to work in a team, but able to plan and work independently

Excellent communication skills
