Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Conservation Science Research Group (Fixed Term)

University Of Cambridge

Description

Post-doctoral Research Associate - Conservation Science Research Group

(Fixed Term)

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to quantify and map coastal wetland ecosystem services at the global scale, with a focus on tidal marsh carbon.

The successful candidate will have excellent skills in statistical analyses and programming (e.g. R, Python), and experience in spatial analysis including the use of GIS or remote sensing.

The candidate's main role will be to develop modelling methods to quantify coastal wetland ecosystem services including tidal marsh carbon, as a means to support conservation interventions, including protection and restoration. This will include compiling a georeferenced tidal marsh carbon dataset and identifying or developing biophysical covariates to underpin a global tidal marsh carbon model.

In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will engage in local-scale applications of regional and global analyses, through close collaboration with The Nature Conservancy and its on-the-ground projects.

The successful candidate will join the Conservation Science Research Group at the University of Cambridge, to be supervised by Dr Thomas Worthington, alongside Professor Andrew Balmford and Professor William Sutherland; in collaboration with Emily Landis and Dr Mark Spalding of The Nature Conservancy; and Dr Nick Murray of James Cook University. The position will be based in the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI)'s David Attenborough Building in central Cambridge, which provides exceptional opportunities for applied interdisciplinary collaboration.
